FIRST was founded to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
The FIRST National Capital Region benefits local students, teachers, corporate and community partners across Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Through the FIRST National Capital Region and our major program partners, we coordinate activities and resources across a broader community of FIRST teams, events and students. The funding focus of the FIRST National Capitol Region is on FIRST Robotics Competition events and teams. Funding efforts for other FIRST programs are driven by our major program partners, including James Madison University, College of Southern Maryland and University of Maryland Baltimore County.
